Rachid’s art combines his skill with the complex issues that he has faced throughout his life as an Amazigh (Berber) growing up in a rural town in Morocco.  His still life art and impressionistic art represent the past and present daily life in rural Morocco.  His abstract art combines symbols from tifinagh (the Berber alphabet) with ancient Islamic, Berber, and Moroccan symbols.  With all of his art, he wants to convey a message about his culture and his history to the rest of Morocco and the world by illustrating what exists in Tinjdad, Morocco:  its ancient secrets, traditions, ceremonies, buildings, and crafts.  He also wants to show how one used to live here and how they still live here in this small desert Berber town.  His paintings mirror real life, the life he and his family have lived, and he wants people to know his paintings are a message.   There is always a real aspect to his art as he hopes that those who observe his paintings will realize their message and his mission.
